Board of the week! #5

Surf Neutral hosts many different types of surfboards manufactured by local shapers worldwide.

One type of surfboard is the kneeboard. This type of surfboard caught the attention of the surf world in the mid-60s due to backyard craftsman and inventor George Greenough who made the first Velo-spoon. A short, red kneeboard with the deck scooped and a wide flex-tail.

Our board of the week today is The Japanese Hornet by Barry Snyder. At one time, Barry hand-shaped 4-5 boards daily while being a production shaper for top major brands. His years working with so many craftsmen set him up to begin his own brand BSD. Being a natural non-conformist, He strives to be unique and set himself apart from other shapers. From glueing up his own blanks to designing and applying airbrush graphics. Barry is a very versatile shaper that shapes all types of surf craft.

THE JAPANESE HORNET
Influenced by Ben Aipa, this stinger design is the newest model in Barry's Kneeboard models.
This board was part of the boardroom show display in Delmar CA in 2021. An extreme custom build with Agave stringer, Volan cloth, & custom glass on fins. The standard shape is much simpler, but Barry went wild on this one!

Barry is a great human and swears by the truly handcrafted product and the sounds of good old fashion punk. Connect with him if you are in the area; you won't regret it!
