Board of the week! #14

For our board of the week #14, we travel to Jeffreys Bay, Home to one of the most iconic righthanders in the world and the inspiration for this project.

In this small town, you can find many surfers but a true stand out surfing this Rebel surfboard made by Thys Strydom has to be Ludi, both of them are lifetime local boys so check them out!

Brand: REBEL
Shaper: Thys Strydom
Owner: Ludi du toit "Die Seekat"
Model: Custom

Board Details: Right here
This board is a nice classic Retro Fish model, An old-school type of board fitting the surfer's style perfectly. The board has more volume in the front that allows you to do those big soul arches. The board has a relatively more planning area, and in combination with the twin-fin set-up, it guarantees one to fly and trim down the line.

This particular board has a bit of a kick in the tail area, which allows the surfer to surf steeper waves and draw different lines Mikey February style.

The artwork on the board was done by Ludi after receiving the board. If you want to know what else he is riding, check here
Thys Strydom
was born in Jeffreys Bay and went to school in Humansdorp, which is a 20 min drive. At school, they used to call him the Rebel, so that's where the name for his brand comes from.

Thys travelled his fair bit and lived in many different places. Most of his travels involved surfing and shaping.

In his career, he has shaped around 22000 surfboards. Thys was earning a reputation and honing shaping skills by shaping for international labels like Town & Country, Brewer, Vudu and Blue Hawaii. He was once awarded the Quiksilver contract to shape Q-Stix surfboards for the local Quiksilver Boardriders Club Stores.

Thys does a great job in supporting local kids with boards to surf Kitchen Windows, which is very close to the factory.
All surfboards are shaped, glassed and finished at "The Rebel Surfboard Factory" in Jeffreys Bay by local craftsmen. Rebel surfboards have a machine at their disposal to cut blanks which speeds up the board-building process.

Rebel Surfboards makes genuine local Rebel surfboards for all types of surfers anywhere in the world. Check out his latest models in the youtube video available on his Surf Neutral profile.
